Transitions // Farewell to Katie Hearn

Katie Hearn has transitioned out of her role as Executive Director of the Detroit Community Technology project. Katie has been in community with DCTP for many years, first joining as a member of the Digital Stewards Community Group (which was formed in 2012 by Allied Media Projects and partners), and as a member of the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition. The work of those groups was foundational for our organization, which officially formed in 2014. Katie joined the team as our IT Manager in 2019, stepping up into the Executive Director role later that same year during a transitional time. Katie infused care and collaboration into this role, building up new scaffolding to support a growing DCTP staff, our programs, and organizational resiliency. She helped steward the organization through multiple transitions, including the switch to remote work in 2019, and our partnership with the LOVE Building where our new office is located.

Katie’s positive energy and dedication to this community has been much appreciated, and has contributed to leveling up DCTP during her time as Executive Director. She will be missed, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors!

DCTP is now hiring a new Executive Director! The initial focus of this role will be on fund development and building organizational capacity and resilience. The Executive Director will be integral to visioning and implementing the future of DCTP in a changing technology landscape, with community at the forefront. They will be the main point of contact and collaboration with funders and partners, including the Community Technology Collective and our fiscal sponsor, Allied Media Projects.
